On August 1, I took the reins as chief executive officer of the National Association of REALTORS®, the nation’s largest trade association, representing 1.2 million REALTORS® in residential and commercial real estate.

With 30 years of service to the real estate industry and 22 of those years at NAR, I have experienced several “Own It” moments. The “Own It” opportunities that stand out are those that allowed NAR to anticipate the needs of our members and provide a resource or benefit. For example, I created and launched the highly successful REALTOR Benefits® Program. More than 800,000 members take advantage of the program annually to save money on business products and services.

To help our members own their future success, I initiated NAR’s top-level domain initiative, securing .realtor, .realestate, and, with the Canadian Real Estate Association, .mls. Anyone who has worked with me understands that owning change and disruption is at the core of my leadership vision for NAR and our members. This is why I have been a key player in establishing technology partnerships through the association’s investment arm, Second Century Ventures, and its REach Technology Accelerator.

Now, as I begin my tenure as CEO, I will own this moment by reaching out to state and local associations to strengthen NAR’s relationship with all of our members. I am asking my executive team to engage our state and local associations to improve lines of communication and build trust. I will lead by example by encouraging you to follow me on Facebook, @RealtorsCEO, or search for Bob Goldberg on LinkedIn to follow me there. I am confident if we own this moment, we will secure tomorrow for our members and organized real estate.
